Fimpec drives the technical engineering of the biogas plant
Auris Energia is planning a biogas plant in Säkylä that seamlessly combines circular economy principles with renewable energy production. The plant will produce 130 GWh of renewable biogas annually, replacing fossil fuels in industry and transport.
In addition to the Säkylä biogas plant, the project includes a gas upgrading facility to be built in Harjavalta. The final investment decision is set for spring 2026, followed by construction, and production start-up in 2028. The total investment value of the project is approximately EUR 50 million.
The biogas process will generate recycled fertilizers as a by-product, replacing mineral fertilizers used in local agriculture. In turn, the biogas plant will process around 230,000 tons of industrial and agricultural side streams annually from the region.
Boosting renewable gas production and Finnish energy security
According to Auris’ Vice President, New Ventures and Business Development, Ville Karttunen, demand for renewable biogas is growing rapidly in industry. Biogas is a reliable and cost-effective solution, as production capacity already exists and is based on proven technology.
“Locally produced biogas strengthens Finland’s energy security and provides clean energy when other renewable sources are not available. This project supports sustainable growth across the Satakunta region and reduces dependency on imported fuels,” Karttunen highlights.
Detailed engineering work is underway with trusted Finnish partners. Fimpec is responsible for the technical design of both the Säkylä biogas plant and the Harjavalta gas upgrading facility.
“During the tendering phase for Säkylä and Harjavalta, our discussions with Auris Energia and the project developer Gas1 were exceptionally open and solution-driven — we found a shared ambition to advance future-proof energy solutions. That strong foundation gives us every reason to build a long-term partnership,” shares Aki Kaulamo, Project and Sales Manager, Fimpec.
Fimpec expertise at the core of engineering
Fimpec brings strong EPCM expertise in industrial processes and the energy sector, alongside extensive experience in biogas and power-to-X projects. The company also integrates process, electrical, automation and structural engineering into a streamlined and cost-efficient solution.
“We are proud to support a project that brings together circular economy, energy security and renewable energy in a tangible way. It demonstrates how Finnish engineering expertise accelerates the green transition and strengthens regional vitality,” expresses Sami Nissinen, Vice President, Energy, Fimpec Engineering.
Project Manager Ilkka Pihlainen adds:“The Säkylä and Harjavalta plants form an efficient and well-aligned technical and logistical whole. Our design focus is on energy efficiency, operability and safety — key factors that ensure long-term profitability and environmental performance.”
