Stockholm Water and Waste
Reconstruction and expansion of wastewater treatment plant
About the project
Stockholm’s sewage system needs to be modernized to meet the needs of a growing city and at the same time meet stricter environmental requirements. With the help of new advanced technology, more waste water will be able to be cleaned and with higher quality before it is discharged into the Baltic Sea.
The project Stockholm’s future sewage treatment (SFA) is one of the largest that Stockholm Water and Waste has ever carried out. When the Bromma treatment plant closes, a new 14 kilometer long tunnel under the city will lead the waste water from Västerort to the Sickla plant. This plant, which is part of Henriksdal’s treatment plant, is being expanded to handle the increased amount of water and waste water. Wastewater The water is then transported through an existing tunnel to Henriksdal’s treatment plant, which is being upgraded with modern membrane technology – a new and improved method for treating waste water, making Henriksdal one of the world’s most advanced modern treatment plants.
